Aldactone is the brand name but I use generic. The generic for my 25mg pills smelled so gross but the 50mg ones are mint flavored :)

I am on 200 mg of spiro - a generic brand I think called Spirotone. Aldactone is the name brand. There are several different off brand names as there are tons of drug companies that now make spiro. My skin was not too bad - some cystic acne, but I also have other symptoms of pcos, so my doc said to try the spiro and see if things got better. I have been on the spiro for 50 days (I know this as I had a bottle of 100 tabs, 2 a day) and I have noticed a greatly reduced amount of oil production and my acne, including on my back has gotten much better, though it is not yet clear. Additionally, I have noticed a significant slowing of the growth of body hair, which I understand takes several months to happen, but it has already gotten much better for me... go figure. I have not had any side effects except a headache here and there if I don't drink enough water, particularly if I am exercising a bunch. I am careful either to take my second dose early or skip it if I am going out and drinking as I don't want to get too dehydrated. The only think that I have to keep an eye on is my blood pressure - it has dropped a good bit. When I was at the oral surgeon the other day it was 104/60 which is MUCH lower than my normal 115-120/75-80. I called my doctor and he said that as long as I was not feeling too tired or dizzy I just need to check it every week at home to make sure it does not continue to go down.

Good luck getting the spiro - I hope that it works for you!
