Spironolactone is the generic of Aldactone and is an androgen blocker. It blocks the androgens from attaching to the receptor sites in your brain and because of that, you should break out less because an imbalance of androgens in your system is what causes acne. If you're a girl, this can be a very good thing. If you're a guy, it might not be. In the United States, you can only get it through prescription. You can order it online, but I am not sure if you can trust that the medicines online are safe, effective, are what they purport to be, or are fraudulent. I was looking into ordering it online myself. It is for all types of acne, regardless of the severity. Some people have a hard time getting it recommended because some doctors don't know of it well enough, or are afraid to give it to their patients because it can affect the sexual development of unborn children if a woman is at risk of getting pregnant, or it can make a guy sterile if he takes a lot of it on a continuing basis. Some people have said that if you take enough mg of the herb saw palmetto, that is just as effective as Spironalactone. |
