Hi,
I had a stroke 1 1/2 years ago and have been on Plavix and 81mg of aspirin a day since. I am also an RN. Personally I hate coumadin. You have to have all the blood tests to be sure that you are within therapeutic range, etc. You don't have to do that with the Plavix. Though I must warn you, it is expensive, even with insurance.
So if you're DR' does not want to change your husband, go seek a second opinion from a vascular DR. Coumadin is an old med, and there are new antiplatelets coming out. Plavix is one Aggrenox is another. Check them out. And Like I said, if you are not happy or comfortable with what your current doc is saying, go seek another opinion. If the other opinion agrees with the current one, then keep with the coumadin. If not, maybe you can get back to racing. Lots of luck Kim
