   Severe Menopause! (Menopause board)

21st December 2004
It was bearable at the beginning, I have always had minor hot flashes until the last 5 months with these syptoms started.

Since I just found out that I have hypothyroid, I've started taking a low dose of sythroid for approx 2 weeks now, to hopefully help with the icy sensations. I am also on Lipitor and Adalat for cholesterol and high blood pressure- I will not take HRT, etc. I recently stopped taking all my vitamins because I didn't want any reaction to the 3 meds mentioned above. I do eat very well and walk- I've lost approx 30 lbs, I'm a size 10 again.

Hi DesperateLDY,
What you're going thru could be related to the mix of meds like Lady50 said rather than post-menopause, esp. of you started taking the cholesterol and high-pressure meds about the time when you started feeling badly and now you're on the hypo med. Have your dr. been monitoring your high cholesterol and high pressure long enough to say you really need to be on meds for those things? I assume you have tried on your own by eating healthy, exercise, you since you lost weight too - did it make a difference in your readings?

I take Levoxyl 0.1 mg a mild hypothyroid med for years - never noticed any difference while taking it...sometimes I wonder if I really need it...
