Hi:
I came upon your post because of the prednisone and acyclovir mentions which my child was prescribed for a very different condition - acute mylogenous leukemia followed by bone marrow transplant. Prednisone was used as an immune-suppressant and can have some devasting effects. Acyclovir was used mostly to manage viral infections or flares of an already present virus.
Your post intrigued me so I did some checking on the NIH neurological/cognitive development Web site as well as on their clinical trials page. Here are the links:
