first-time poster: eye drops and macular pucker (Eye & Vision board)

1st February 2007
Three weeks after cataract surgery, my vision deteriorated and I was diagnosed with macular pucker. A retinal specialist prescribed Pred Forte and Acular 4 times a day for approximately 6 weeks in an attempt to relieve inflamation and swelling and hopefully reverse the macular pucker. I had just broken my ankle and was in a cast and on crutches. (The retinal doc said my eye problem - especially the swelling -might even be made worse by the trauma of the broken ankle.) From what I've read, these drops probably won't help my macular pucker and could even be detrimental due to the long term use. (I was on them for four weeks previously following the cataract removal.) I would greatly appreciate some opinions.

I'd call it blury vision or a very noticeable decline in sharpness. I tried on a very old pair of glasses that helped somewhat. But the doc doesn't want to give me a new prescription until he decides what should be done about the macular pucker after 6 or 8 weeks on Acular and Pred Forte. From what I've read, the drops aren't going to help. And surgery should only be considered if the pucker causes undue vision loss. My main concern is being able to pass a drivers license vision test that requires 20/50 results. And I think I can do that with a new prescription, IF the pucker doesn't get worse.
