Help me...please! (Eye & Vision board)

23rd April 2006
Hi,
Week ago on saturday I woke up with my eyes covered with yellow crust (however since thursday i felt itchy eyes), however my nose was runny really bad (clear discharge+sneeze). I went to the doctor and she gave me zyrtec and bausch&lomb PolyB/Th..sth antibiotic. I used it till Friday. Througout the week the crust was always there after waking up. During the day I had a mucoid stringy coming out of my eyes. (however it was not yellow or green, it was more like whitisch) Today (sunday) i am not taking the drops anymore because it says one cant use this antibiotic eye drop for too long. My throat is sore but this is more like the back of the palate (not itchy...sore). However, the zyrtec does not really help for throat and eyes. Since the doctor I went to originally on saturday was not my doctor I went to my doctor last (4 days later with some muscle problem not related but I also asked about the eyes) tuesday and he also wanted to give me zyrtec and he gave me Acular. He said it is Pink Eye but Allergic. I did not however discontinue the Poly B. Now once I am done with them (Poly B)I still woke up today with the crusty eyes...If this is allergic then there should not be crusty discharge right? I dont know what to think. I could go to the doctor again but dont want to be overreacting. Should I start using Acullar now after Antibotic eye drops?? Please help me...Thank you

You should see an ophthalmologist to find out if your pink eye is gone or if you need a different anti-biotic drop. The white mucus strings could just be from allergies. There is no harm in using the Acular drops. If anything, they'll help with the itching.

Going to an optometrist would also work in this situation. They have a lot of experience in dealing with things like this.
