What is my illness? (Infectious Diseases board)

29th May 2005
After various drugs in my eyes following cataract surgery I developed the following symptoms since October 2004: severe teeth chattering, nausea, pain in the head behind the eyes and, lately, shortness of breath at the same time as the other symptoms. Symptoms come and go; can last three days and then for a week or more be free of all symptoms. The eye drugs were predforte and acular. Have discontinued all eye drugs but have been put on a regime of atavan, .05 three times daily. I am also on Coumadin and Zocor. Nothing seems to help but the symptoms go away for a week or more and then return. They are so severe that I am awakened from my sleep by severe pain behind my eyes. There is also severe belching that accompanies the nausea. I have also been taking Ambien to help me sleep but the latest episode occurred even with the Ambien; I awakened an hour and a half after taking the ambien. I have never had a fever. I have had many tests taken but the doctors do not have a name for my problem nor do they seem to know what causes my symptom and what proper medication would relieve my symptoms. Has anyone had any similar symptoms and what treatment or medication have you received?
