Issues with low blood sugar on Medications (Diabetes board)

19th July 2007
I have serious issues lately with episodes of sudden low sugar levels. I am taking 10 mg of Byetta, (2) 500 mg. tabs of Metformin and 5 mg of Actos daily. For the last 2 weeks (it seems like 3 to 4 times a week), I will have an episode of low sugar level (testing in the low to mid 60's) always happening after I eat my dinner meal. I talked with my doctor today who said that nothing I am taking would cause a sudden sugar drop. He wanted to take me off of the Byetta because I had not lost any additional weight since being on the 10 mg dosage (which has only been the last 6 weeks). I did lose about 12 lbs while taking the 5 mg dosage over a period of 2 months. I told him I did not want to get off of the Byetta because I thought it was really controlling my sugar levels, so we decided to stop taking the Actos. He really wants me to lose more weight which I told him that I have lost inches because all of my clothes are very loose. I am 5ft 6in and my weight is now 186. I am at a loss as to what to do.
Before taking the Byetta and being on (4) tabs of 500 mg of Metformin, my blood sugar was still not controlled, so I like where my results are now. My ac1 level is now down to 6.1. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what they would do? Thank you for your response.
