I have not had any bad results with Metformin. Your readings are pretty high, if these are the fasting results. Your doc can titrate the Amaryl up to 8 mg daily if he/she thinks that is wise within his/her clinical experience and your presentation and history.
Another two medications which are of a different drug class than Metformin are Avandia and Actos. These have a similar effect to metformin in that they don't increase the insulin level in your body, they increase insulin sensitivity of the tissues. Your doctor may want to try one of these in combination with Amaryl.
