Diet,
You know surgeons are idiots when it comes to pm!! I think you should continue your regimen and talk to your prescribing doc....don't torture yourself. When I had my kidney removed in 2006, the surgeon said I should be pain free once it comes out. WHAATTT!!! Good thing my pm doc was standing there next to him in pre-op. He said "are you serious?? You know NOTHING about the nervous system, chronic pain, or pain management"!
The kidneys are the source of my chronic and acute pain, or should I say kidney, now. The surgeon and his resident didn't want me to have the epidural, either. My pm doc said, "she's getting it....she's not going to suffer! She's also getting her regular meds, too (Duragesic and Actiq, at the time...now, Oxycontin & Actiq)". I actually heard the surgeon call my pm doc a "drug pusher" as he and his resident walked away in a huff.
Anyway, like I said, don't torture yourself, ok?? I'm sure your prescribing doc will agree. Hang in there! ;)
