Do you know if we need a letter from Dr?... (Pain Management board)

1st November 2007
Hi All,

I was the one recent pulled out of line from the TSA for my meds. The reason was because of the Actiq. Actiq is a lozenge on a stick and they saw the sticks through the X-ray machine with a "suspicious white substance" on the end. After they went through all my meds, in front of God and everyone else, they said it was fine. Keep everything in the original bottles/boxes, ok?? Never, Never, check your meds!!!! Always carry them on with you. After they took out the Actiq and looked at the box, they were fine.

The RX label is on the box and it says specifically to "dissolve one lozenge for b/t as needed". The pharm also puts a label on the boxes saying what it is. They didn't open the box, or anything, they had just never seen it before. Interesting, Actiq has been out for years and they said they have never seen it. This is a major airport too..D/FW (Dallas/Fort Worth international airport). You'll be fine. If pulled out, ask to go somewhere private. That's the only thing I regret about my situation, but I was too terrified and didn't want to seem "uncooperative".....ya know?? Take care!!

P.S. I just wanted to add some info about the letter from the doc. I talked to the TSA and they said I didn't need one because of how easy it would be to have a fake letter that's not even from a doc....ya know what I mean?? They said, and my pharmacist said too, it's best just to keep everything in the original containers with your RX label on them. If they have any questions, they can call the pharm. You can still carry a letter, if ya want, I didn't, but I did have my doc's cell phone number in case they couldn't talk to the pharm. Don't know how good that would have been, because for all they know, it could be fake too.
