Hi mili...to test your parathyroids, they do a specific bloodtest to measure your parathyroid hormone. The test is called a PTH. If that is elevated, then they will do a scan of your neck to see if they can find the adenoma (that's a benign tumor in the parathyroid gland or glands) that causes the parathyroids to become overactive. If that's the case, then surgery is necessary to remove the overactive gland or glands. It carries a 95% cure rate for stones. They removed 3 1/2 of my glands, so I have 1/2 left. You have 4 glands, some people can even have more. But typically, there are only 4. Unfortunately, the surgery did not work for me, but please, please remember, I'm an extremely RARE case!!
As far as the nausea, YES, I get extremely sick from the pain. I use phenergan ALL the time. If I start having just the slightest feeling of nausea, I take some. I usually take pills, unless I'm thowing everything up, then I have to use the suppository form, yuck! LOL Remember this too, the pain meds can also make you nauseated. When I took Oxycontin, it always made me sick. My patches (Duragesic) and suckers (Actiq) both made from the narcotic Fentanyl, do not make me sick. I hope this answered your questions, and I'm happy to see you have a doc that is treating your pain!!! Good Luck and feel free to ask me anything. Bye for now! :)
