Hey Joe, I've been there too. I asked a friend to get me some when I had just come home from the hospital from a 6 level fusion. I went from PCA dilaudid to oral dilaudid and went home the next day with a script for Tylox. Obviously that didn't cut, we added back the oral dilaudid to the tylox and I was still miserable.
I asked a friend to get me some and he bought 2 15 dollar caps. He snorted one line, about 1/3 of one cap and puked his guts out for 12 hours. I decided it wasn't worth it. He tossed them all out. Post op pain will get better, Taking more than your docs prescribing without his Ok is a good way to get cut off. He needs to know your in this much pain.
Insist he sees you on monday, you could have an infection and it will give him a chance to add something to the mix. There are opaite pain meds that do work and are much safer, it's just a matter of finding what works for you. You also don't want to start associating the buzz with pain relief. You can have one without the other.
There are stronger meds than dilaudid, he can slap a duragesic patch on for a few weeks or give you Actiq "fentanyl" loli pops. They are absorbed in your mouth so keeping it down isn't a problem. Don't even think about tampering with the patches or abusing Fentanyl, It's 900 times more potent than morphine. Good luck and hang in there, Shoreline
