neverending Sinus Problems!! (General Health board)

8th January 2006
About ten years ago I had a never ending sinus problem. I finally went to an allergist got on a long term antibiotic (6 weeks). (I wish I remembered what it was) Then started allergy shots. I was relativley sinus problem free until several weeks ago!
I have had bad luck with doctors this time around (we are in a new city and as you probably know it's hard to restablish new doctors that you trust when you move)---1st my GP then an ENT . GP prescribed 1st Doxycyline--which doesn't even appear to be recommended for sinus infections!!!! and now the ENT prescribed 10 days of Augmentin (too short from what I've garnered on Internet). Neither has been very informative about the situation in general and I'm an information junkie--especialy where my health is concerned.
I'm terrified I will go through the same thing I went through ten years ago. I have no energy on the Augmentin and don't feel a whole lot improved; I'm very possibly resistent to it any way. I was on acne antibiotics for 15 years until I went on Accutane. So my resistence to antibiotics is high. I also have chronic yeast infectons as a result.
It seems to me I've had good luck in the past (which I mentioned to both doctors) with Ceftin and Cefzil. Can anyone enlighten me on the differences in all of the antibiotics out there? Which are the safest and most effective and what are the trade offs on one vs another (side effects, resistence, efficacy, mechanism, etc?????????????????????????????) The doctors don't seem to be able to answer these questions, yet they prescribe them like candy. I find it deeply disturbing. In the meantime, I've lost a week of work, missed New Year's Eve and and terrified I'll be useless for the rest of the month or more.
