Acutane dry lips solution? (Acne board)

2nd April 2004
Buy a healing ointment called Aquaphor. I've been on accutane for a while and my lips are basically normal with continuos use of aquaphor. Although I really don't know what the girl can do about the state of her lips. It seems that her lips are so bad its gonna be damn hard to heal unless she stops taking accutane. Your supposed to moisturize early to keep your lips from getting to that stage... i think bringing her lips back to even seminormal while on accutane is too much even for aquaphor.

My lips were extremely dry when I was megadosing on Vitamin B5...to the point that they were cracking and bleeding. B5 works similar to accutane, but it sounds like your friend's lips are a lot worse than mine were. :(

The only thing that worked for me was stopping the B5 and applying Blistex Lip Ointment and/or Vaseline Lip Therapy. They are both relatively cheap and can be found at any drug store! It took a couple days of regular use (I didn't even wear lipstick), but my lips are back to normal now. I actually still use the Vaseline to keep my lips smooth on a daily basis! :D

Hope everything works out for your friend!

Im on accutane, and I apply carmax (chapstick) like 3 times a day, or even more ever since the first day I started accutane. My lips can get dry, but I could not stand dry lips to that point, so I apply the chapstick often. I sugguest your friend does the same. If she waited this long before applying something, well then I don't know.

My son and I have been on accutane for 3 weeks now. I'm 42 and he's 17. My acne wasn't as bad as it used to be but still very worrysome and my sons was aweful. We are both having good results but we are having the lip dryness. Mine has done some peeling. We started using Aquaphor because of this site. It really makes a big difference. I had tried everything else. I must say aquaphor several times a day makes a large improvement. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

I was on accutane a few years ago. The only thing that worked for my dry, chapped lips was Carmex as well. Even to this day I still need it on my lips at all times, although the dryness is not severe. I think the Accutane affected me permanently.

Ya, I've heard using Carmex makes your lips dependent on them, apparently thats what may have occured with you. Thats why I didn't use Carmex... hopefully Aquaphor doesn't have the same effect.
