   Meds advice or feedback? (High & Low Blood Pressure board)

22nd May 2007
I am 46 yrs old, on meds since age 31. Both parents, and my brother (no other siblings) also on meds onset age 38 for my Mom, 45 for my dad, 35 for my brother. Family history signifcant to say the least. Overwieght by about 40 lbs (have lost 20 in past 2 yrs), but very active, in the gym 5X/week for an hour, cardio 20 mins one day, 40 mins the next....

I take;

50mg atenolol
20mg accupril
10mg norvasc (recently increased from 5mg after problems with surges)

Side effects;

ringing ears
cold feet/hands
energy is low from time to time, this could be the effect of a 2yr old at home

I have significant white coat, therefore my Dr. depends on my home readings. I have a stressful job, and most surges I have are in concert with something going on at work/home.

My Dr just ran a comprehensive blood screen with my annual physical, everything normal, including thyroid, fasting bs, choles, etc etc......

I would love to get some feedback on my combination of meds. I keep looking around myself and I think it may be time to try something else, but need some feedback on what has worked for some of you before going in to see my Dr and hearing what he may have to say.

Ideally I would like to cut out one or more of the meds and/or lower dosages, not increase as we did with norvasc.

Thanks!

jeeps,

Replace either atenolol or Norvasc or better yet BOTH with a diuretic and see if that doesn't give you better readings.
Accupril works better with a diuretic anyways.

Has you doctor NO CLUE that the guidlines call for starting with a diuretic (rather than a pricey patented Pfizer promo. :D:D...almost poetical ;) ) He should open a medical book occasionally and read something other than Pfizer (Norvasc's pusher) brochures.

More likely from the 50 mg. atenolol.

My take is that 3 drug combo you're on is a VERY bad set of choices. DOUBLY so if they aren't giving you stellar BP results.
