   What medications is everyone taking? (Asthma board)

29th April 2003
You're going to get quite a variety of answers here I think. Asthma is a rather personal disease so everyone finds a different mix. I am steroid dependent so my list is a little nasty:
* Advair 500/50
* Flovent 250
* Spiriva (the new 24-hour Atrovent release-love it!)
* Prednisone - curently 20 mg daily (hoping to go to
alternate day dosing - ok, hoping to get off the
stuff but not likely to happen)
* Ventolin nebs or puffers and/or Bricanyl if needed

In hopes of getting off the prednisone I was on theophylline for a while but it was too hard on my heart and I tried Accolate but got minimal response for the big bucks.

Side effects? Lots! So, to counteract the side effects (especially of the prednisone) I take a whole bunch of supplements and Actonel which hopefully will stop my bones from disintigrating too quickly.

I use Advair 250/50 and almost never need my Albuterol since the doc switched me to the Advair. Before the Advair I was on Accolate, Volmax and Flovent AND frequently needing my Albuterol.

Only had to be on Prednisone once when I had a really bad flare up from a sinus infection. (that stuff made me CRAZY!!!) Three other times I've had bad flare ups that they wanted me to take Prednisone for And i asked if there was any alternative since it made me so crazy. My doc gave me a Cortisone shot instead of putting me on the Prednisone, and it was MUCH more tolerable and just as effective.

Hi everyone I'm new here. Anyway I take Accolate, Serevent, and four puffs of Pulmicort every day. When I need it I takeAlbuteral and Atrovent. I have a nebulizer for both of those too. I usually need one or two bursts of oral steroids each year for anywhere from five days to three weeks.
