Right now I'm on Accolate and am using an Azmacort inhaler when needed (like everytime I get a cold). I don't like using steroids but any bronchiodialator makes my heart race. What does Cromolyn do?

Cromolyn was the very first breakthrough inhaler for the treatment of Asthma. It is not a steriod. It is a mast cell inhibitor. It is not a bronchiodialator. It is something that you have to take multiple times per day to prevent asthma attacks. The newer corticosteroids (steriods), might be more effective, but the Cromolyn should have no effect on the heart whatsoever. In fact, it is really a great asthma medicine because of it's lack of side effects. Ask your doctor about it. |
