7th March 2007
I am awaiting getting an operation--which won't take place for about 4-6 months--it's the gastric bypass----I suffer with anxiety and it has been under control until I got my first appt with the surgion April 17th---about 3 days ago I started having MUSIC going around in my head--now, I can't hear it like voices or anything like that--it's like I am thinking about it all the time--the same song goes around my head over and over---its making me more anxious knowing that I have music going round my head--Like I said--I dont hear it---im just thinking about it constantly--the doc put me back on xanax
.5 mg 3-4 times a day--its not helping me at all, he started me yesterday on ABILIFY 5mg....has anyone ever had music going round there head all day to the point its so annoying and makes ya more anxious??? seems like everytime I am going to have some major problem--my anxiety gets out of wack---I have been doing real well with my anxiety--now the darn music is starting--like I said--I dont hear it--I think about it constantly---its tv cmmercials--today I have 2 songs going round and round---its driving me nuts---please tell me Im not alone--I feel so afaid and alone and that there is not cure and Im going to go crazy--thank you

First of all, you are not crazy and you are not alone. I know that you are miserable right now but since you've just been put on Abilify, it probably hasn't had enough time to get into your system and actually do what it's supposed to do.
As for the xanax, if it's not helping your anxiety at all...I would call your doctor back and let him/her know that you are not getting any kind of relief whatsoever. The doctor might increase your dosage but he also might say that you need to give it more time. However, from what I know about Xanax...it should help anxiety 15-45 minutes after taking it. Another suggestion is that you could take 2 of the .5 mg pills of Xanax at the same time but you could only do that twice a day. When I was prescribed Xanax...I can remember being prescribed 3-4 mg. per day so I would really give your doctor a call.
A friend of mine has obsessive compulsive disorder and prior to taking medication would think the same thoughts over and over again like you do with music. It drove him absolutely nuts. You are far from alone and obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety related disorder. I have panic/anxiety disorder that's been under control for 9 years but I can totally relate to the discomfort you are feeling and my heart truly goes out to you.
Please keep us informed on how you are doing!

How are you doing?? Has the medication done anything to help you as of yet??
If not, it could take the Abilify 2-4 weeks to start giving you complete comfort. If it hasn't helped you in 4 weeks...call your doctor and ask if something else can be prescribed for you. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes awhile to find the medication that works best for you. On the other hand, sometimes one gets lucky and the first medication that the doctor prescribes is what works for the person.
I know gastric bypass surgery is a very major surgery. My friend had it done about 9 years ago and he had a very good experience. What is it about the surgery that is scaring you so much?? Have you sought counseling concerning this surgery? I don't know where you live but I do know that in most places there are support groups for those who are about to have the surgery and for those who have already had the surgery. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to try and find others who have gone through this surgery so that they may be able to put some of your anxieties to rest. You describe this surgery as a "trauma" and I know this surgery is not a small simple procedure; but is it worth it for you to have the surgery 6 months from now if it's causing this much anxiety? Again, I don't know if you've sought counseling prior to this procedure but it might be worth putting the surgery off until you are more at ease with it.
May I ask what song/s are going through your head? Do you enjoy any type of music? If so, maybe you could find some kind of relaxing music to listen to with a headset. I know that won't drown out the thoughts but it might distract you for awhile...even 5 minutes of relief is better than none at all.

PLEASE keep me informed on how you are doing! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Blessings,
Cara
