Awful day for son! :( (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

21st February 2007
went to family meeting today with social worked.....she just basically let me know what all they are doing for my son. I also got to see him! it wasn't what i was expecting......i thought he would be all upset with me, and want and beg to come home. But.........he was fine, seemed happier, and was ok with the fact, that he can't come home til they figure out what is going on with him.
they(nurse) called me this afternoon to let me know that he saw the doctor and she wants to start him on Abilify....5mg in the evening. and she d/c'd all the other meds he was on....depakote, concerta & trazadone. so now he'll need to be there for atleast for a couple more days, to make sure this is right for him and he has no side affects.
i told them that i am willing to do anything for him, and try anything we need to try.......that we haven't already.........to help him and make things better.
I was reading on this Abilify, and it seems to supposedly work for ALL his problems, rather than taking the others that he was taking...3 pills a day.....the Abilify is only 1x a day....in the evening. I sooooo hope THIS works for him!! :::::::::::sigh::::::::::::
The NP that he's been seeing had talked about, that if what he WAS on didn't work for him, she was going to start him on the Abilify. But unfortunately.......we had to go this route.
take care eveyone ((((((hugs)))))

He came home today! on his b-day....he's 13 today.
He says he feels better on the Abilify and she said he can still take the Concerta also, he told me too that the Concerta was helping him to remember and focus better too. so we'll do both, and see how he does, if it does nothing for him, or makes anything worse......we'll stop the Concerta.
::::::::crossing fingers::::::::::::hoping this works for him.
he was diagnosed with ODD/ADHD......nothing about BP, which they thought he may be.

How long does it take the Abilify to start working as it should?? All was fine since he's been home until early this evening when it was time to work on homework.....he got angry, told me that i am more strict since he has been on this new medication. I'm not any more strict than i was before, just maybe now that he is on the Abilify, he actually hears and understands what i am saying. He is also on Concerta 36mg.
He still seems as though he doesn't want to listen to authority or take on any responsibilities. This is why i was wondering how long it takes for the medication to start working.

It's supposed to start right away huh?? i heard that it takes awhile, from different people. They didn't exactly say he wasn't BP, but the doctor didn't put it in with the diagnoses she gave, the NP, whom he's been seeing before this little episode, diagnosed him with ADHD and BP. she even said that if what he was on before didn't work for him, then she was going to put him on the Abilify.
He's on the 5mg of Abilify.......maybe it needs upped?? i don't know. he goes for a counseling session on wednesday. He still..........if he doesn't want to do it.......alot of the times.........he gets upset.
I'm about at my wits end with all of this. today he was going to my sisters house to do HW while i was at work. Well let me tell ya.........he got upset. said he was going to call the cops and go back to the behavioral center. My mom, who was taking him to my sisters, told him not yet, you have to do HW first. LOL once he got there, he was fine.
and yes,,,,he's 13,,,,,but these are not normal teen outbursts that he has......it can be horrible!!

take care

monkeymed........good for you that you found the right medicine to work. I think we may have found the right ones for my son also. Abilify & Concerta. He was on Adderal in the past, and it gave him horrible tics. It's too bad there's not just 1 pill to cure all, things would be so much easier. we've been trying to find him the right medications since November.......OMG!! it's been awful. But i think we might be seeing that light at the end of the tunnel.
